Body and mind soundness does not need to wait until your animal is sick or injured. In fact, regular bodywork can help decrease the chances of injury and help boost the immune system, keeping your animal happy, healthy and away from expensive vet costs.
Starting bodywork young has a lot of benefits. When I work on animals who are not acutely injured, it allows me to build rapport with the animal and gain trust in a neutral, non demanding environment. The animal gets used to being handled, manipulated appropriately, and is desensitized to tools in a pace that fits his/her growth and learning.
Should the time come that the animal suffers an injury, he/she is already used to my touch and techniques which helps the animal relax in an already stressful situation. Being able to relax when in pain because the animals know what to expect and trust the person who is working on them allows their recovery to be faster and without added stress.
It's never too late to start bodywork with your animal. Contact me to schedule a session!
My mantra has always been the comfort of the animal first. I will not force a animal into treatment and work with their comfort level rather than mine or their guardians expectations. If your animal is not comfortable being touched or handled, this will need to be addressed on an emotional level first before any physical progress can be expected to be made. I am more than willing to help work with this but it will also take commitment from you.
Traditional Chinese Saying
My animal massage experience started when I was in college working for my first competitive sled dog kennel. One of the top aspects of care for these amazing canine athletes was to make sure they stayed stretched out and happy. I massaged a lot of dogs in those early days learning, and I continue to on a regular basis in my current life owning my own kennel of sled dogs now.
A great deal of care is needed to get a team of dogs down a snowy road for 300 miles. My team and I have never been shy at trying new ways to improve the care of the dogs for this reason. The dogs (and myself) received routine chiropractic adjustments, massages, stretching, and more. It wasn't until my chiropractor suggested I started doing much of this for myself that I started looking into certification.
I finished my canine massage certification in 2019 through Angel's Animals, LLC (Holistic Animal Studies). I quickly added on other support therapies as well before delving into the Equine world. I earned my Equine massage certification in 2023.
In 2022, I was hired by Angel's Animals, LLC as a teaching assistant and adjunct instructor for Holistic Animal Studies. I've helped countless students in all courses thrive, including those in canine and equine massage. I co-authored the Holistic Carnivore Nutrition course and several of my videos have been used in the equine and canine courses.
I've enjoyed every moment of working with the animals that have come in and out of my life, through my own as well as those I've been fortunate enough to apart of their wellness journey. It's finally helped me realize my sense of purpose.
I will travel pretty far if there are enough animals to work on in your particular area on that same day. If you are the only one in the area, you may be subject to a travel fee of $25 per hour of travel. My typical radius is within 2 hours of Wallace, MI.
Of course! Cats and dogs are welcome. If you want to trailer a horse here, you're more than welcome; however, it's usually easier for me to travel to the horse!
Make sure he/she gets plenty of exercise before our scheduled session. Remove all distractions and possible stressors, including other animals if possible. We will take it slow and work at your animal's pace. Note that this process may take time, and more than one session, to achieve full results.
The law varies from state to state. Most states do not require you to be a practicing veterinarian to perform animal bodywork. However, some do require that you practice under a supervising veterinarian. Michigan is not one of these states. For those that do, my supervising veterinarian is Dr. Tracy Nyberg at Stuga North Vet Clinic in Marquette, Michigan.
